Strengths:
At school Ami is very good in learning and memorizing new things. She likes reading and studying and while doing so she gathers a lot of knowledge. Although she was believed to be a snob, she is a very caring and a good friend, who would do anything to help her friends. But because of this her friends can also be her weak spot.

She is very sensible and is unable to hurt innocent people. She also has problems handling quarrels and tries to avoid them.

Personality:
Ami is a shy and unobtrusive girl. As she is not very outgoing her behaviour is often interpreted as snobbery and she has a hard time making friends. Most of her friends try to use her, because of her knowledge and afterwards they let her down as if she had never existed. Because of her trust in other people it hurts her badly when something like this happens.

After a while she became very lonely and spent most of her free time at the roof of her school where she was able to read and think without being disturbed by anyone else. Before meeting Usagi her main focus was on learning and practicing. She spent all her weekends at the library or read books on modern physics or other sciences. Maths is her favourite subject, but she also loves the other natural sciences and even enjoys art and music. From time to time she writes songs or repairs damaged things. She is very diligent in her studies and might become obsessive when she notices that her place as the best student might be threatened by someone else.

Her workaholic tendencies connect her to her mother, who spends most of her time at work. Without even noticing it she is able to work until she is completely burned out and even then she will try to carry on. She relies on the approval of her mother, her teachers and the other people surrounding her and gains confidence out of it. Her mother is her role model and one day she wants to study abroad and become a doctor like her. Ami is the most sensible girl among the sailor senshi and has a kind soul that would not allow her to hurt someone innocent. After meeting Usagi her character changed slightly and she became more confident in herself. Usagi was the first real friend she ever had and she would do anything to protect her or her other friends, even if this means that she has to sacrifice her life for them.

Description:
Ami has a slender body, even as she spends most of her time learning and reading books, but she is able to keep her weight by swimming. With her height of 5.3 feet she is the average size of a young woman. She is still taller than Usagi, but smaller than Makoto. Her short, blue hair stands out against every other hair colour, even among her fellow sailor senshi. Sometimes she wears a blue ribbon in her hair, but most of the times she keeps it the way it is. She also does not like to wear jewellery. From time to time she wears a necklet that consists out of a dark blue ribbon.

Like her hair Ami's eyes have a light blue colour. Even as blue is her favourite colour she likes to wear lighter shades of yellow or pink from time to time, too. Her clothing style is smart and she also loves to wear longer dresses in her favourite colours. During her time at school she has to wear the typical uniform of her High School, but on weekends she also wears jeans and blouses. Even if she does not need them she uses her glasses from time to time, which tend to make her look even shyer and might lead others into believing that she is snooty.

Long time ago when the moon kingdom still existed, sailor mercury was the princess of mercury and also one of the protectors of princess serenity. She lived in mariner castle that was positioned in an orbit around mercury. As she does now in the 20th century she had short blue hair. The dress she often wore had a blue color with light blue ornaments. During the fight against the dark kingdom and while she was trying to protect the princess of the moon together with the other inner senshi, sailor mercury was killed and only with the help of Queen Serenity, who gave her life up for her daughter and them, she and the others were send back to earth to be reborn once again, living a normal life as Ami Mizuno.

Present
Ami was born at the tenth of September. Her father is a painter and her mother is a doctor working at a local hospital. Ami grows up in a very caring and friendly environment but she notices very soon that she has to learn very hard to make her dreams come true. Beside the school, she has to go to in the morning, she also visits special classes in the afternoon to practice and learn even more than she does at school. When she is nine years old her father suddenly disappears from her life. Under the pretence that he only wants to spend the weekend at the forest to relax and try to find new inspiration, he leaves the Mizuno's home and never comes back again. Later Ami learns that her parents have separated. Although her father still sends cards to her on her birthday, Ami resents her parent's divorce. As her mother works most of the day Ami spends her time alone, with her books as her only friends. That way she learns things faster than her comrades at school do and she always is the top pupil at her class. Her mother and her teachers are proud of her but her comrades only laugh at her or think of her as a snob. These things hurt Ami deep at her core and she reads even more. The only time she allows herself to relax was when she is swimming or playing chess. Although she already attends several evening classes, she also joins a computer club at school.

When Ami is fourteen years old everything suddenly begins to change. As the best student at her school she becomes a special member of the crystal evening school program, not knowing that it is only a way Jadeite have planned to steal energy from the students. The day the results of an exam are published Ami is again the talk of her school. No one cares if Ami is close enough to hear their rants about her and after Usagi has had trouble with her mother because of her bad marks once again, she thinks she might be able to become friends with Ami. But that is not without ulterior motives. Luna is sceptical and wants Usagi to be careful with Ami, because she believes Ami might be part of the evil forces. Usagi doesn't listen to her and follows Ami on her way home from school. When Luna suddenly jumps on her shoulder Ami is startled for a moment, but then she begins to stroke Luna. She is amazed by the crescent moon on her forehead and wishes she was able to have a cat like her, too. Via Luna Usagi starts a conversation with Ami and even invites her to the Crown Game Center, a place Ami has never been to before. She lets Usagi talk her into playing the Sailor V game and does not even notice how fast the time passed by.

When it is time for her crystal course she suddenly jumps up, takes her bag and leaves the arcade in a hurry. At the course she notices that her so called crystal disc is missing and begins to work without using it. At first it is not noticed, until Usagi, disguised as a doctor, steps into the classroom and orders all the students to stop working at the computers. Suddenly Youma, a demon, starts the program it uses to steal energy from the students. It works on all the students except Ami, because she did not use that disc. The demon tries to force her into giving her power, too, but while Ami was screaming and trying to get away from the demon the sign of the mercury suddenly begins to glow on her forehead. The Youma is driven away for a moment and Ami has enough time to take the fountain pen Luna gave to her. She transforms into Sailor Mercury and helps Sailor Moon to destroy the demon.

After this event she spends a lot of time with her friends and becomes more open minded than she was before. After defeating Sailor Galaxia everything goes back to normal and Ami once again concentrates hard on her studies to be able to reach her goal to study abroad, preferably in Germany, and becoming a doctor.

Attacks:
Shabon Spray/Mercury Aqua Mist: Sailor Mercury uses her power to manipulate water to produce a dense cloud of mist to distract their enemy and to give her comrades the time they need to prepare for their attack. The same attack name is used for a weak offensive attack, she uses to defeat weaker enemies.
Shine Aqua Illusion: Sailor Mercury produces a projectile out of ice to freeze their enemy. This attack can also be used to create a defensive barrier.
